Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
